Day 1: Arrival (Transfer to Marrakech)
Welcome to Morocco!  Your driver will meet you at the airport of your choice (Casablanca or Marrakech) and transfer you to your accommodations in Marrakech.  Today will be a day of leisure to recover from your travels and prepare for the journey ahead.  In the evening, there will be a tour meeting and an opportunity for you to meet your fellow adventurers.

Day 2: Marrakech to Agdz
Meals Included: Breakfast, Dinner
Today, after breakfast, you will depart from your riad in Marrakech at 8 AM to begin your adventure of a lifetime as you travel over the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka path, reaching an altitude of nearly 7500 feet above sea level.  They say that life is about the journey and not the destination and this is certainly true when you are on this road.  There will be plenty of stops for tea and photographs as you take in the breathtaking vistas before arriving in  Ouarzazate .   Here, in the city known as the Gateway to the Sahara and famous for its film studios, you will break for lunch.  After lunch, you will visit the former palace of the Glaoui clan, Kasbah Taourirt.  If you wish, a backlot tour of one of the film studios can also be arranged before continuing on to Agdz in the Draa Valley.

Day 3: Agdz to Merzouga
Meals Included: Breakfast, Dinner

After breakfast, you will be given a guide tour of the kasbah and the lush palmeraie.  You will quickly see why the Draa Valley is referred to as the Valley of a 1000 palms.  Afterwards,  you will continue through the Draa Valley to towards the desert stopping to visit the small city of Rissani.  If it happens to be a market day, you will have an opportunity to shop like a berber and perhaps partake in the local specialty, Medfouna, also known as Berber Pizza. You’ll visit the tomb of Moulay Ali Sharif (the founder of the current dynasty of Morocco), before you complete the final stretch of the journey to one of the great sand seas of the Sahara, Erg Chebbi, where your Kasbah on the edge of the dunes awaits. You’ll arrive in time to relax a little and prepare for your camel trek.  Just before sunset, you will climb aboard your trusty camel and trek to your berber camp.  Dinner will be served and traditional music will be played around the campfire before you retire to the warmth of your cozy berber tent for the night..

Day 4: Merzouga to Dades via Tinghir
Meals Included: Breakfast, Dinner

Today your camel guide will wake you early so that you can watch the sunrise over the dunes.  After the spectacular sunrise, you will camel trek back to the kasbah on the edge of the sand sea where breakfast will be served and you will have an opportunity to shower and prepare for the day.  After breakfast and showers, you’ll head out again to make your way towards Dades.  On the way, you will stop to visit the ancient irrigations system that once brought water from the Saghro Mountains to the desert.  Next, you will travel to the oasis of Tinghir where you will go on a guided walk through the palmerie and the old Mellah (Jewish neighborhood). After you’ve explored Tinghir, you will head to nearby Todgha Gorge to walk through the narrow canyon before continuing on to Dades where you will stop for the night.

Day 5: Dades
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Today, you will spend the day in the Valley of Roses mixing with the local people.  After breakfast,  you will have the option to take a short guided hike through the nearby rock formation knows as the Monkey Fingers.  After you will head to the home of  a local family to enjoy a traditional Moroccan lunch.  After lunch you will have the opportunity to experience a local hammam (optional), or explore the valley by foot or bus.

Day 6: Dades to Marrakech
Meals Included: Breakfast

Following breakfast, you will have the option to do a short (approximately 1 hour) guided hike through the unusual rock formation locally known as the Monkey Fingers.  After your walk, you will make your way back to Marrakech traveling on the Road of 1000 Kasbahs.  You’ll take a slightly different route and stop along the way to visit the UNESCO World Heritage site of Ait Ben Haddou located just outside of Ouarzazate.  If this impressive ksar looks familiar, it is because it has starred (or at least made an appearance) in many movies and TV shows including Gladiator, Lawrence of Arabia and Game of Thrones.  After exploring and having lunch, you will travel along the route of the Old Salt Caravan in the Ourilla Valley to the Glaoui Kasbah of Telouet where you will be treated to a guided tour.  After learning the history of the Kasbah and its Glaoui owners, you will travel once again over the breathtaking High Atlas Mountains and back to your riad in Marrakech.

Day 7: Marrakech
Meals Included: Breakfast

After breakfast today, you will meet your local city guide for a tour of Marrakech.  Your tour will include visits to the old Ben Youssef MadrasaEl Badi Palace, the Saadian Tombs, and the beautiful Koutoubia Mosque.  After you’ve visited these monuments, your guide will escort you to the souks of Marrakech to see how artisans still use traditional methods for their handicrafts today.  After your tour, you will be driven outside of the medina to enjoy the tranquility of Marjorelle Garden which were created by the French painter Jacques Marjorelle over the course of 40 years.  After your stroll among the exotic plants and trees of the lush gardens, you will be taken back inside the medina to visit the famed square of Jemaa El F’na.  This is the busiest square in all of Africa and it only comes alive after dark.  Here, you will truly experience the sights, sounds, and even smells of Marrakech before returning to your Riad for the evening.

Day 8: Marrakech to Essaouira
Meals Included: Breakfast

Your driver will arrive at your riad or hotel in Marrakech at 8 AM to take you to the beach where you will visit the walled city of Essaouira, also known as Mogador from the Portuguese word meaning “wall”.  Archeological evidence shows that this area has been inhabited since prehistoric times, but the city as it is now was designed in the 18th century by the French engineer, Thédore Cornut.  On the way to Essaouira, you will see groves of Argan trees from which Morocco’s liquid gold (argan oil) is produced with the unique help of local goats.  You will arrive in the coastal city at 11:00 AM, just in time to make your way to the shore for a seafood lunch of freshly caught fish.  Afterwards, you will have the afternoon to discover this beautiful city.

Day 9: Departure (Transfer to airport)
Meals Included: Breakfast
