Detailed Itinerary

An Amazing Experience!

Our trip was amazing from start to finish. Sharon was incredibly responsive each time I had a question and made some great suggestions that helped make our trip perfect. In fact, Sharon’s helpful and quick responses are the reason we chose Morocco Immersions as our tour group. Even though it was our first trip to Morocco, it felt like we were visiting family. Hicham was an informative guide, and went out of his way at every chance to make our trip perfect. He narrated our drive to the desert through the High Atlas Mountains with the history of Morocco as it passed by our window. It was the best history lesson ever! The camel excursion was a highlight, and the luxury campsite in the heart of the desert was unbelievable. We had local guides in each of the cities we visited, and all were informative and sweet. Ait-Ben-Haddou was another highlight. Our Riad in Marrakech was beautiful, and right off the Jemma-al-Fenna square. We wandered Marrakech right from our bedroom door. From start to finish, this was the trip of a lifetime. Thank you to Sharon and her family for everything!

They say that life is about the journey and not the destination and this is certainly true when you are on this road. There will be plenty of stops for tea and photographs as you take in the breathtaking vistas before arriving in Ouarzazate - the Hollywood of Morocco and home to Atlas Film Studios. You'll walk in the footsteps of Hollywood stars during a a guided backlot tour of this active film studio where movies and tv shows like Kingdom of Heaven, Blackhawk Down, The Mummy, Game of Thrones (and many others) have been filmed. After your tour, you will continue through the Draa Valley to towards the desert stopping to visit the small city of Rissani. If it happens to be a market day, you will have an opportunity to shop like a berber. You’ll also visit the tomb of Moulay Ali Sharif (the founder of the current dynasty of Morocco), before you complete the final stretch of the journey to one of the great sand seas of the Sahara, Erg Chebbi, where your Kasbah on the edge of the dunes awaits. You’ll have a chance to relax by the pool or climb the nearest dune to watch the sunset before dinner is served.

You’ll enjoy tea while they perform and we dare you to try to keep from moving in time to the music! After this, you'll head for lunch and sample the local specialty, Medfouna, aka Berber Pizza. After lunch and a bit more exploring, you will head back to the kasbah where you will have a chance to relax a little and prepare for your camel trek. Next, you’ll visit nearby Todgha Gorge where you will walk through the most impressive part of the canyon.  After this, you’ll head to the beautiful Dades Valley to your accommodations for the night.  Dinner will be served here.

Dades Valley to Marrakech via Ait Ben Haddou

If this impressive ksar looks familiar, it is because it has starred (or at least made an appearance) in many movies and TV shows including Gladiator, Lawrence of Arabia, The Jewel of the Nile, and Game of Thrones. After exploring and having lunch, you will travel along the route of the Old Salt Caravan in the Ounilla Valley past the Glaoui Kasbah of Telouet.
