Upon arrival at Athens International Airport, you'll make your way to the city center. Since our fellow travel companions may arrive at different times, today is yours to relax, explore, or rest at your own pace.
In the evening, we’ll regroup for a welcome dinner with our tour guide, getting to know each other while enjoying our first taste of Greek cuisine—a perfect start to our Greece Immersion adventure!
*Note: One group transfer is included. Once we know everyone's arrival time, we will determine any additional transfer costs and split it amongst all of the travelers.
What a better way to begin your holidays in Greece other than enjoying a walking tour around the city and exploring Athens’ major highlights? In the morning we will enjoy a wonderful 3.5-4 hour guided tour in Athens to explore some of its most important sites! We will visit the archaeological site of Acropolis, Athens’ landmark, the Acropolis museum and walk around the picturesque neighborhoods of Plaka, Thiseio and Monastiraki.
After our walking tour, we will have the afternoon/evening free to explore on our own.
This morning, after breakfast, we will check out from our hotel in Athens and be transferred to Athens int. airport where we will catch a short flight to Ioannina(45min). From here, we will be transferred to one of the most beautiful, lush and pristine areas of Greece, the Zagori villages and Northern Pindos National Park! This will be our base for some great outdoor activities for the next 3 days.
The first destination is Vradeto village, the highest of all the Zagori villages. You will enjoy light lunch at a traditional family-run taverna, before your first hike.
From Vradeto you will hike to Beloe viewpoint (2km / way, 4km return hike),fromwhere you can enjoy panoramic viewsover Vikos gorge. You willreturn to Vradeto from the same pathand from there you can either board the bus or hike with us down the beautiful Vradeto steps (stone path built in the 16th century at the slopes of Mezaria Gorge) to the village of Kapesovo (extra 2km, approx. 1 hr).
We will then head to Vitsa village and a beautiful traditional guesthouse, where we’ll spend the next 3 nights.
Hike duration: 3.5-4 hours / Level of difficulty: easy to moderate
Note: Travelers who don’t want to hike that much can be transferred with the van to Vradeto village and do (if they wish) only the part Vradeto – Beloe viewpoint – Vradeto, which is easy, 2km per way, 4km in total.
Today we will move from Central Zagori to West Zagori and enjoy a wonderful river rafting adventure in one of Europe’s cleanest rivers! (approx. 45-50min drive). Starting from the beautiful stone bridge of Aristi, we will cross the National Park of Northern Pindos, while rafting across Voidomatis river. This is an easy route, ideal for everyone, yet very impressive because of the river’s crystal clear waters and the surrounding natural landscape.
Activity duration: approx. 1.5 hours in the water –3.5 hrs total
We will then visit one of the most beautiful and inhabited villages of the area, Megalo Papigo village. Free time for lunch and visit of the village. We will also visit Ovires natural pools, located in a beautiful canyon, between Mikro and Megalo Papigo villages. If you are brave enough, you may take a dive in the cold waters!
After this, we will return to our guest house in Vista for another delicious homemade meal.
This morning, we will visit some of the most important and beautiful arch stone bridges of Zagori, dating back to the 16 –18th centuries. We'll have a snack lunch en route.
*The tour of the arch stone bridges can be done in many ways, we may hike to all the bridges or do parts by car (it depends on the travelers, it is a quite flexible trail)
In the afternoon we will visit to Monodendri village & Agia Paraskevi monastery and then to Oxya viewpoint and the stone forest.
This morning after breakfast, we will depart with destination the UNESCO Worldwide Heritage site of Meteora.
Once we arrive, an exciting experience will follow…truffle hunting under the rocks of Meteora! Combined with truffle cooking out in the wild, mushroom delicacies tasting and lunch in nature, followed by a visit at the Museum of Natural History and Mushrooms in Kalambaka, today’s experience will definitely fulfill your expectations!

The hike and visit to the monastery will finish around lunch time.

After an early breakfast, we will drive to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Delphi (approx. 3.5 hrs drive)
Today we will visit another UNESCO Heritage Site, the archaeological site of Delphi, the place that in ancient times was considered as the navel of the world!
After our guided tour of Delphi, we will transfer back to Athens (approx. 2.5 hrs drive). Upon arrival in Athens, you will check in at your hotel and have the evening free to enjoy it the way you wish (walk around, visit local shops, enjoy dinner in one of the nearby restaurants etc.)

In the afternoon, we will enjoy a welcome walking tour in Naxos town (Chora). Before (or after) dinner, when the sun goes down, we will not miss the chance to walk through the paved footpath towards the islet of Palatia and admire the impressive marble gate of Portara and the stunning sunset views it offers. In the evening, we will enjoy dinner together as we are introduced to island life!

Admire the beautiful views of Venetian Towers, marbled alleys, cozy tavernas, verandas, and traditional tiny shops with local products. Driving along the west coast, one of the most beautiful routes on the island with an amazing view of the sea, we will reach the village of Eggares and visit the olive museum. You will take a guided tour of the museum and taste small samples of delicious olive products. In the afternoon, around 17:00pm, you will be back at your hotel.
You will have free time to relax, enjoy an afternoon swim at the beach of St. George or a walk around Chora, before our group dinner.
Another wonderful day awaits for you today, as you will embark on a full day cruising tour to Delos & Mykonos islands!
At around 9:00am we will board the ferry that will take us from Naxos to the uninhabited island of Delos within just 45min. Delos was the most sacred of all Greek islands in ancient times and today is one of Greece’s most important archaeological sites. It is a UNESCO Worldwide Heritage site and the place where ancient Greeks believed that God Apollo was born. You will explore this spectacular site on a guided tour, feel some of its energy and learn more about its history.

You will have this morning free to spend it the way you wish before we depart for Santorini. You can choose among a fantastic horse-riding tour, a cooking class, a bike tour (for an additional fee) or simply wonder around the narrow streets of Chora, purchase local products and souvenirs or relax on the beach.

FAQs
In Zagori villages and Meteora (where prices are lower compared to the islands) you can estimate on average around 12 – 17€ per person for dinner when it is not included. A carafe with ½ liter of house wine costs approximately 4€; beers around 2.5-3.5€ and refreshments around 1.5 – 2€.
Naxos and Santorini are a bit more expensive since these are more popular destinations, so they should estimate around 15 – 20€ per person for dinner, 5€ for ½ liter of house wine, 3.5 – 5€ for a beer, and 2-3€ for refreshments at restaurants.
Bottled water in Greece comes at 0.5€ the small bottle and 1€ the big bottle (although cheaper is bought at a supermarket). A coffee at a café would be around 3 – 4€ (in Santorini maybe a bit more), alcoholic drinks on the islands around 6-8€ per drink. In general, eating and drinking outside in Greece is relatively cheap, compared to other European countries or the USA.
During our trip to the mountains & Meteora, guests have minimum extra expenses, besides their drinks (which are very cheap there by the way), because most of the services are included.
On the islands it is a bit different, because guests will likely want to go out for a drink, do some shopping. etc.
You can use both in Greece; however cash is always much more appreciated here, compared to credit cards (the opposite of what you are mentioning!)
We will definitely inform guests accordingly during our briefing on day 1, but here is some basic info:In the Zagori villages there are only 2 ATMs among the villages, so we would advise them to withdraw cash before departing from Athens. On the islands (and in Meteora), there are ATMs everywhere (attached to banks, besides the touristic ones), so no worries, they will be able to find plenty of them in all places.
This rafting is very easy, especially in summer time when water levels are quite low. It is not demanding at all in terms of physical requirements, people mostly enjoy the beautiful crystal clear river and the surrounding natural landscape which is stunning. No limitations.
For the mountain portion of the trip, we will use a 20 passenger bus and we will have a maximum of 16 guests. This size bus will allow us to be more nimble and reach areas that a larger bus will not be able to get to. On the islands, we can use a larger bus if needed.
Because we feel that the mountains will be a great opportunity to get off of the main tourist track and mingle with the locals, we do encourage you to join for the whole trip; however, since we don't have quite the same limitations on transportation as in the mountains, we will consider opening a small number of seats for just this portion of the trip. Contact Sharon for more information about this (sharon@moroccoimmersion,com).
